Kazakh opposition leader promotes democracy in the US
The candidate of the united Kazakh opposition for the upcoming
Presidential Elections in Kazakhstan, Zharmakhan Tuyakbay, visited Washington D.C. in
order to introduce himself and the program of his movement to the responsible actors in
the US Government and US Congress.
After the recent developments in the neighboring countries of
Kazakhstan, the representatives in Washington are more than ever aware of the fact, that
an intensive dialogue with democratic forces of Central Asia are essential for a positive
and substainable development in the region.
In the presence of Tuyakbay, President George W. Bush pointed out in a
speech that the West should invest more efforts in promoting democratic principles;
therefore NGO’s, civil rights organizations and democratic movements in countries of
repression and dictatorship will get more support through the US Administration.
After the recent resolution of the European Parliament regarding the relations between
the European Union and the Central Asian countries last week, it is obvious now that the
democratic movements of Eurasia can count on the direct help of the Western Community,
ignoring any repressive new law like in Kazakhstan, where it is now forbidden having
relations with Western institutions.
